Tampa Modeling Photography News 11/11/10 - WE ARE MOBILIZING! Here at the Tampa Modeling Photography Aurora PhotoArts Tampa photography marketing web site, we are planning for the future. Soon, this simple web site will be replaced by a huge, brand new Venus 3 Venus Class photography marketing web site like the one used for the main Aurora PhotoArts Tampa Photography and Design, and a vast network of other Aurora PhotoArts Venus 3 marketing web sites. For over ten years now, Aurora PhotoArts has specialized in the top value in modeling and talent photography services. This is why we have a marketing web site dedicated to modeling photography. We are very serious about our Tampa modeling photography services, and will work hard to maintain the standard in professional modeling testing photography, and modeling portfolio photography, in the Tampa Bay market. Our new web site will have a lot of new information about modeling photography; information which will educate aspiring and experienced models so they can make educated choices about who to select for the modeling photography which is is most appropriate for their careers. Now, we realize that there are many photographers out there who dream to take pictures of models, and who want to be like Aurora PhotoArts. They can keep dreaming. No one does it better than us in the Tampa Bay market, and we prove it with every modeling photography session. Some of these pretenders try to steal our ideas, and try to copy us, too, but the most that they succeed in doing is coming off like a cheap, low quality, third-rate knock off, or counterfeit. Why book the followers when you can book the leader? We're the source of the best value in Tampa modeling photography, anyway, and we are exactly what models need, and what they are looking for. So, since we really do know what we are doing, it's time to add some more content now. The best is coming later. Models don't need mayhem in their careers. They don't need questionable services from photographers who may not have their best interests in mind. They need professional quality, order in their careers, and an advantage over the models who take short cuts and compromise. That advantage is us, and your better than than those models who compromise the integrity, and the marketability, of their modeling careers. That's why Aurora PhotoArts has been the standard of Tampa modeling photography services for the past decade, and why we continue to be the choice of professional models, as well as new models who want the advantages that we offer (and we won't even have to go into the fact that we own the top modeling resource sites in the world, Tampa Bay Modeling, and Independent Modeling, and we are sure that other photographers don't want you to know that. We're also the authority on modeling, period, and have more to offer the career of a model than any agency ever could. We are the standard, as well as the leader, in the Tampa modeling market).

If you are looking for the best value in modeling photography in the Tampa Bay area, you just found it!

Aurora PhotoArts Tampa Photography and Design specializes in modeling photography services. We can prove that we are the best value, and the best choice, for the photography that models need for their modeling portfolios!
Our pictures work for you, and make your modeling portfolio effective. They show your range of looks as a model, and make you marketable in your modeling career. Regardless of how you manage your modeling career, you have to have quality modeling photographs for your modeling portfolio.

Models have a tough career. In order to work as a model, they have to compete with other models. Often, the model who books the job has the best modeling portfolio, with photographs which show a look which the modeling job has in mind.
It’s not about simply picking up a camera and taking a picture of a model. Modeling photography is not portrait, wedding, or any other type of photography. Modeling photography is a specialized photography field where the photographer has to understand the marketing needs of a modeling career, and this knowledge, and experience, cannot be faked. A modeling portfolio photographer has to know what kind of photographs work the best in the portfolio of the model, and what is most effective as a marketing tool for a model in an competitive industry. They have to know what they are doing. They have to have a plan.
Aurora PhotoArts has a plan, and we’ve spent over a decade perfecting our Tampa modeling portfolio photography services. Models who invest in our Tampa modeling photography services for their portfolios benefit from years of experience working with some of the best models in the modeling industry. We pride ourselves on being able to deliver what the model needs to be able to effectively market their modeling careers, and to be able to compete against models who are trying to book the same modeling jobs as they are. For Tampa models, it often comes down to who has the best, and the most relevant, modeling portfolio.
The modeling portfolio is the sum of the pictures in it. Quality, professional modeling photography is critical to providing the photographs that are needed for an effective modeling portfolio.
The Tampa modeling photography market is a cluttered one. Everyone from wedding photographers to portrait photographers advertise modeling photography services, and often treat modeling photography as a regular type of photography.
The problem is that it isn’t. It’s a specialized, professionally-critical type of photography with high standards, and the photography can make or break the career of a model, and the ability of the model to get work. With consumer photography markets such as wedding and portrait photography, the customers are average people who are not able to evaluate quality photography. As a result, the standards are lower. The consumer might like the photography from the photographer, but it may not necessarily be good. The standards are simply not as critical.
Modeling photography is a tough market. Your customers are often models who know what a good photograph is, and the photography is used in the marketing of a professional modeling career in a very competitive modeling industry. Additionally, there isn’t as much business in modeling photography, because not everyone can be a model (numbers from our Independent Modeling site statistics indicate that only 1 in 1,000 can model, 1 in 10,000 are at least 5' 8'' and can do fashion modeling, as well, and 1 in 100,000 are triple-threat models, with talent beyond modeling, much like our Tampa model friend Ann Poonkasem!). The market is limited. This is why many photographers work as portrait or wedding photographers, and don’t really work with modeling photography (well, at least until Tampa portrait and wedding photographers saw us demonstrate that there was a market in Tampa modeling photography. It's then that some of them began to try to copy us; they want to be just like us). This is also why many photographers don’t know what they are doing with modeling photography, and why they are unable to give the models what they need.
Aurora PhotoArts has thrived in the modeling photography market. We began working with professional models back in 2000, back in the days when 35MM SLR cameras took film and development (some of our most famous pictures in our portfolio were taken by film cameras!), and have worked with models ever since. Every model who we work with teaches us something. As a result, we are the most experienced photography company in the Tampa Bay market for modeling portfolio photography and modeling career support. In our opinion, and in the opinions of models who have benefited from our modeling photography services, there isn’t any other Tampa photographer, or photographer in the Tampa Bay area, which is better. We pride ourselves in being the top, and the most effective, choice for modeling photography services. We are the best value in Tampa modeling photography services, and no one else in Florida can do what we can do for models.

MODELING PHOTOGRAPHY TIPS

Obtaining modeling portfolio photography services can be a minefield. If you want to shop around for a photographer for the photography services which you will need for your modeling portfolio, we still want to help. Here are some tips on obtaining what you need (and, please, keep in mind that our services are in line with all of these tips, as we are the top modeling photography services company in the Tampa Bay area):

1. You get what you pay for.
It’s an old saying, but it is true. You really do get what you pay for. A guy with a camera offering to photograph your modeling portfolio cheap, or for free, is a false economy, and can also be dangerous. If it is cheap, or free, you will not get what you will need, and could even put you in a situation which is dangerous for you personally, or professionally. Just as importantly, you could be wasting a lot of time, which cannot be replaced, as well as wasting money which could be invested in professional services. If you are tempted with photography service terms which are too good to be true, you could get burned when you find out that they really ARE too good to be true! Additionally, photographers who shoot for free are often guys with cameras who are simply out to meet attractive women. Do you really want to be hit on? Some of these unprofessional photographers are out to exploit models, too, trying to get them to take their clothes off (nude pictures WILL cripple your marketability for mainstream modeling... DON'T DO IT, unless you want to handicap your modeling career. Pictures are forever, too, and cannot be undone), or to pose in provocative poses which can be taken out of context and used for purposes which are unintentional. In the Tampa Bay area, you will find a lot of amateur photographers who don't know what they are doing, but will promise you the world. Don't fall for their scam.
Models who use amateur modeling pictures in their portfolio find it difficult to compete with the models who invest in professional modeling portfolios (and we are dedicated to giving professional models who invest in their portfolios and modeling career tools an advantage over models who try to take short cuts. Good luck competing against the models who invest in our Tampa modeling photography services).
Avoid any offers for free model testing or TFP photography, especially in the Tampa Bay area. It's a mistake, and even in the best cases, a tremendous waste of time with the potential to learn bad habits.

2. Think value, and not price.
Too many aspiring, new models, as well as professional models, make the mistake of seeking out the lowest cost services. This is a false economy, a waste of money, and a waste of time, because you will not be able to get the professional modeling portfolio photographs that you need to effectively market your modeling career. More often than not, the difference between booking modeling jobs and getting passed over is in the quality of your modeling portfolio, the pictures in your modeling portfolio, and your modeling composite cards. Aurora PhotoArts Tampa Photography and Design offers an unbeatable investment in the modeling photography services that you will need for your modeling career, and the models who invest in our Tampa modeling photography services have an advantage over models who try to compete with them using cheap, flawed modeling portfolios. As a model, you will only get out of your career what you put into it, so make a wise investment, and skip the budget modeling photography deals.

3. Never pay by the hour.
A lot of photographers have Tampa modeling photography packages rated by the hour, or charge by the hour. Haste makes waste; modeling photography is not a race. Take your time with any Tampa modeling photography service! Don’t book services from a photographer who has one eye on you, and one on the clock. You’re in the market for effective, professional pictures, not a series of rushed pictures which are not portfolio and composite card-worthy. Will you pay by the hour, and hope that the pictures are usable, or pay by the job, and be assured that the photographs are worth the time, money, and effort?
On average, it should take about an hour to shoot one look, and the bare minimum should be no less than a half hour. Most modeling photography services to establish a modeling portfolio are at least six looks, and composite cards alone, in a normal 1-4 setup, require 5 looks. Expect to spend an average of 6 hours for a modeling portfolio photography session, and don’t fall into the trap of watching the clock yourself. Take your time, and get it right!

4. TFP / TFCD is for amateurs. Avoid it.
In these days of inexpensive digital cameras and “free” photography which do not require film and development costs, there are a lot of people out there with digital cameras offering to help models build their portfolios free of charge. These offers, called TFP (Time For Prints) and TFCD (Time For CD- both terms essentially mean the same thing), are not worth it. They are dangerous, as most of them are offered by amateur photographers who try to use photography as a means to meet, and/or exploit women, and are wastes of time which seldom give you photographs even approaching professional quality. The time and effort required to build a professional-quality portfolio with TFP is not cost-effective, either, as you would have to spend over a hundred hours, do days of work screening TFP photographers, and would have to do sessions with at least seven of those photographers to give you enough usable looks to start a modeling portfolio; even then, it will be hard to compete against smart models who have invested in modeling portfolios from professional photographers who are in business to do modeling photography. The models who paid for their portfolios are going to have more effective portfolios.
Also, if you think that you can pick up a camera and shoot a professional-quality modeling portfolio, or that you can lend your camera to a friend and get the professional results that you will need for your modeling portfolio, we wish you luck. You will find out the hard way that it takes a lot of experience, and skill, to do good work in modeling photography. The best modeling photographers have at least THREE YEARS of professional experience concentrating on taking pictures of models, and they get that experience by either assisting experienced professional photographers who also specialize in modeling photography, or by paying professional models to give them the experience that they need. It is not easy, and it is a reason that most photographers don’t attempt to do modeling photography, or do much business in the field. Additionally, most modeling photography is booked by models who have an educated eye, and who can tell what a good picture is, unlike the average consumer who books, say, a wedding photographer. Modeling photography is a limited market, because most people are not able to model, and it is also a market where quality is properly evaluated, so the few prospective clients that you do get will not book you at all of your work is not good enough. This is why a lot of photographers who aspire to shoot models offer free services; they are not good enough to charge models to photograph their portfolios. Do you really want that? Do you really want to waste your time obtaining mediocre, useless pictures for your portfolios, especially when the professional models who you are competing with for modeling jobs are using professional photographs in their portfolios that they were wise enough to invest in? Do you want to risk working with some guy with a camera who has less than professional intentions, as well? It’s just too risky, and not at all a good deal even in the rare, best of circumstances.
Ideally, an average photographer who can give you the professional-quality pictures that you will need to market your modeling career will have at least FIVE YEARS of experience photographing models (the above example of three years is for a talented photographer), and will have spent hundreds of hours and thousands of dollars learning how to shoot models. Our lead photographer, Chris Passinault, has been photographing models professionally for over ten years, and he is considered my many professional models to be the best modeling portfolio and model testing photographer in the Tampa Bay market. Tampa photographer Chris Passinault turned pro back in the film and development days, taking pictures of models with a 35MM film SLR, and spending a lot of time and money learning his craft. He learned how to take pictures correctly from the start, and has never had to use photoshop to improve his photographs or to fix a “mistake”. This makes him a photographer who is truly at the top of the modeling portfolio photography business. Passinault has stated that it cost him several years of time, and at least $10,000.00 in film and development costs, to build his portfolio. Now THAT’S an investment, and models get off cheap compared to that!
A professional photographer who can give you what you need is not going to offer you services for free if you are a new model who needs a portfolio. Period.
What’s a professional photographer? A photographer who can consistently demonstrate an investment into their photography career. A professional modeling photographer has at least three years of experience working with, and taking pictures of, professional models, has a professionally designed and maintained web site (usually a .Com and a web site layout not based on some cookie cutter flash site template), and a physical, printed portfolio of their photography work. They know what a look is, and how to obtain the looks out of models which will be needed for the model to market their modeling career. Additionally, if the photographer is in business to provide modeling portfolio photography services, they have an occupational licence (Aurora PhotoArts has been licensed since 2001, when we began offering services).

5. Make sure that the modeling photographer or modeling photography company guarantees their work for quality.

6. Make sure that the photographer is a professional modeling portfolio photographer.

7. You need at least five looks for a professional, and marketable, modeling portfolio, minimum.

8. A modeling portfolio should never be done entirely in a Tampa photography studio.

9. Avoid cheap modeling composite cards.

10. Invest in a modeling portfolio book.

11. Invest in a professional web site for your modeling career.

12. Never buy any services from anyone who advertises a Tampa modeling job!

13. Always put your modeling portfolio together before going to any Tampa modeling and talent agency!

14. Nude, glamour, boudoir, lingerie, and risque bikini pictures have no business in your professional modeling portfolio.
